The Center for Civic Engagement in collaboration with the Office of Student Engagement and Brownsville Parks and Recreation is organizing an Alternative Spring Break (ASB) opportunity for faculty, staff, students, and members of the community. The ASB opportunity aims to give our campus community the opportunity to serve others while gaining insight of the needs of the community surrounding our campus. The days of service will highlight health, science, and the environment.

Spring Break, March 9-13, 2015.

Location: Brownsville Parks and Recreation Department

Monday, March 9: Science Day will feature activities related to chemistry and astronomy.

Tuesday, March 10: Health Day will feature a health-related activities, nutrition class, dental hygiene, and outdoors activities.

Wednesday, March 11: Environment Day will feature free composting classes, environmentally friendly arts and crafts, and outdoors activities.

Thursday, March 12: Field Trip (TBD)

Friday, March 13: Sports and Recreation Day will feature Zumba and culminating playoff games in soccer, basketball, volleyball, and chess.

Location: Tony Gonzalez Park

Activities will take place from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. at both locations and will benefit children ages 6-15 of the Buena Vida neighborhood along with other surrounding neighborhoods.
